My current solution is to publish my snapshots mainly in Google+ using a watermark “CC BY Tiina M Niskanen”. Below are the main reasons for my choise:

  1. I wish to share my visual memories somewhere, even if they are just snapshots taken with a mobile, usually in a hurry and always without a tripod.
  2. I prefer Google+ over FB, Flickr or 500px, because Google+ welcomes also amateurs, but the daily themes with hashtags and pages make it easy to find also professional photographers.
  3. Even if I have no plans to utilize my photos businesswise, it would be nice to have credit (the “BY” in the licence) in case a photo should leave my profile – thus the visible name.
  4. I wish to promote open licencing whenever feasible, therefore I chose CC (Creative Commons) rather than C (copyright).
  5. Although photos look better without watermarks, I wish to communicate clearly what rights I’m willing to give the viewer  – therefore the visual licence tag.

With these thoughts I wish you a Happy New Year!
